I am who I am today because of people who took time to notice and invest in me.
Way back in middle school, my goal was to avoid drawing too much attention to myself. When I signed up for drama class, I imagined being the kid off stage opening and closing the curtains. But when audition day came for our first production, Mr. Jones told his class that everyone was required to audition for a part. The other boys were clamoring for attention and wanted to be the lead. At most, I wanted a side role. When my turn came, I figured I had nothing to lose and did my best. I can still remember all the eyes of the class turning to me when Mr. Jones said that I had landed the lead. I was shocked, uncomfortable, and even a little proud.
That day literally catapulted me into the spotlight. It changed my growth trajectory and in the years that followed, I learned to be comfortable in my own skin. I’m grateful for a teacher that was willing to see more potential in me than I had considered myself. Throughout my childhood and into adulthood, countless teachers, coaches, pastors, family members, counselors, and advisors have supported and encouraged my personal and professional growth. I’m indebted to their investment in me.
My passion is helping others live into their potential.
I’m drawn to coaching and teaching because I’ve seen the profound impact that new insight can have on our lives. I love that moment of understanding when the pieces click together and something finally makes sense. It’s just as fun to watch the moment of insight in others. The conversation pauses, then there’s the lean back. Finally, a subtle smirk and a, “Wow. I’ve never thought about it like that before.” Good coaching pursues this kind of insight, then offers the encouragement and accountability necessary to achieve lasting change.
